Stash is a men's retail store offering apparel, accessories and gifts. Located inside the Slow Down Barbershop and Lounge, you can find the same vintage-inspired atmosphere paired with an appreciation for quality, community and a respect for traditions. Origin was brought in to partner with Stash from conception, helping to create an identity and retail store for men with the conditions that it be geared towards the modern man, vintage but not pretentious, and hammer the importance of quality, local goods.

Crafting Honest Copy

With some research on competitors and a deep dive conversation into the Stash team’s goals and vision for the new local shop, Origin crafted copy and a tagline that was custom-tailored. Provisions for Gentleman uses vintage and formal terminology. Locally Gathered, Quality Goods describes exactly what the customer can expect.

Getting Gritty

Moving into the brand identity phase, the visual identity needed to feel raw, yet refined. Worn, yet timeless. Masculine, yet approachable. The logo embraces a timeless direction, honoring both old and new. The owl carrying the stash symbolizes the importance of curating from local sources, and the expert knowledge and wisdom that goes into stocking the shelves with premium goods.

A rough and weathered texture distressed the logo to subtly age the design. The barber shop that Stash is housed within features furniture from centuries ago, so a crispy clean brand would have be conflicting. The owl and typography were developed with this in mind, having an organic, inked effect to further blend into the shop’s surroundings.

Spreading Their Wings

The most important aspect of the brand identity system is that it be extremely flexible. Since the primary usage was to be for apparel and product labeling, the design should work seamlessly in one-color and multi-color options and be broken out into many different shapes and variations.
